How much is my gold worth?
Enter the weight and karat. We'll tell you what the gold in it is worth at today's international price.
How to avoid getting underpaid
- Check today's price before you leave home (with this calculator).
- Ask them to weigh the piece in front of you, in grams, on a scale you can see.
- Look for the purity stamp (10k/417, 14k/585, 18k/750) and ask them to test it in front of you.
- Get at least three quotes, in writing if possible, stating grams and karat.
- Ask what percentage of melt value they are offering.
- Be wary of anyone who won't tell you the weight or purity, or pressures you to decide now.
- Stones and non-gold parts aren't paid as gold: ask them to separate them.
- Antique, designer or branded pieces can be worth more than their gold: talk to an appraiser before selling them as scrap.
- Ask for a receipt showing weight, purity and the price paid.
